Sypht formed in a small Fenland village near Cambridge in 1996 under the name 'Mirage' with Sam (lead guitar), Rob (vocals and guitar), another Sam (rhythm guitar), Ben (bass) and Steve (drums). Steve soon left to be replaced by Tom (lead guitar sam's brother) as the new drummer. A couple of years later Ben decided to leave the band and Sam followed in his footsteps leaving "Sypht". For the first few years the band covered a various number of songs from artists such as Oasis, Nirvana and Green Day, playing limited amounts of local shows under the name 'Distorted Vision'. Then after beginning to write original songs, 'Sift' began playing more shows in Cambridge. The first of these was at the Portland arms in June 2000 and since then "Sypht" gone on to do an increasing number of shows in Cambridge and elsewhere.
